What are the benefits of a Global Talent Visa?

Global Talent is a UK immigration category for talented and promising individuals in specific sectors wishing to work in the UK. A Global Talent visa allows its holder to reside and work in the UK almost with no restrictions. You can work as an employee, self-employed, or be a director or shareholder of a UK business. It can be for any length of time between 1 to 5 years and leads to permanent residency or further extension if necessary.

Can I bring my family with me?

Yes, you can bring your partner and children to the UK. Your partner can be a married partner or an unmarried partner with whom you have lived together for at least 2 years. The partner would be granted a Dependent Partner visa and it gives them a right to work in the UK. Children can attend public or private schools. Your family will have access to medicine and the right to rent in the UK. Your family can also obtain permanent residence here after living with you in the UK for 5years.

How long can I stay in the UK with the Global Talent Visa?

There is no maximum number of years that you can remain in the UK in the Global Talent visa category. A Global Talent visa can be granted for any period between 1 to 5years. You can extend this visa for another up to 5 years after the initial period provided the endorsement was not revoked and you continue to work in theUK in the field of your expertise. You will need to show evidence of receiving income in the UK, but there is no minimum level of income requirement that is needed for this. After living in the UK for at least 3 or 5 years depending on whether you have a Talent or Promise endorsement, you will be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain (type of permanent residence).

What do I need to become a UK citizen?

You will need to obtain ILR (permanent residence) first and wait for 12 months before applying for British nationality unless you are married to a British citizen. After 12months in the UK with an ILR, you will need to also meet the minimum residence requirement in the UK with limits of your absences from the UK. You would also need to meet English language and Life in the UK requirements, but normally you would have already met these at the ILR stage. After becoming a UK citizen and going through naturalisation ceremony, you will be able to apply for a British passport.

Can I switch from another type of Visa?

You can switch from inside the UK from certain types of visas, which includes but not limited to work visa (Skilled Worker, Global Business Mobility, Innovator),family visa, student visa, or any other residence visa. You cannot switch from the UK if you are in the UK on a business or tourist visitor visa. You would need to leave the UK and apply from abroad for a Global Talent visa in this case and return to the UK to start your residence here.

Eligibility
Who is eligible to apply for the Global Talent Visa?

TheGlobal Talent visa is open to talented and promising applicants within the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, and arts and culture (including film and television, fashion design, and architecture) who wish to work in the UK. You must normally be endorsed by one of the specialist bodies in the respective field of work for your professional achievements. Each endorsement body has a set of requirements for the document and how they assess the applicants. Certain fields allow for automatic endorsement if you have recently won one of the prestigious prizes.

Do I need a job offer/investments/income to apply?

The Global Talent category is not subject to a cap on the number of applicants and does not require a job offer or a certain level of funds and investments available to the applicant. Global Talent visa applicants also do not need to satisfy a maintenance funds requirement. You will need to prove to the endorsement body that you are a leader or have the potential to become a leader in the field of your professional activity. You would also need to explain how your presence will benefit the UK sector.

Do I need to pass a language test?

You are not required to pass an English language test for a Global Talent visa. Your partner also does not need to pass an English test. You will need to meet an English language requirement if in the future you decide to apply for ILR (permanent residence) and British citizenship. You can meet this requirement by either passing an approved English language test, having had a degree taught in English or by having a degree from a UK university.

Are there any specific requirements for the applicants?

In order to qualify for a Global Talent visa, you will need to meet the following requirements: 1) Be aged 18 or over; 2) Have been issued with an endorsement letter by a HomeOffice approved endorsing body or have been awarded a prestigious prize; 3) your application does not fall under the general grounds for refusal; and 4) Provided a valid TB certificate if required. If you are applying from certain countries, you are required to show that you have no TB and you will need to complete a health examination in one of the approved clinics.

Which industries are allowed for Global Talent?

A Global Talent visa is designed for people working in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology, and arts and culture (including film and television, fashion design, and architecture). Each endorsing body assesses only the field of its specialist, and you cannot mix different areas of professionalism in your application. Most of the bodies also require showing evidence of your work achievements for the past 5 years only.

Application
How long does it take to receive a Global Talent Visa?

The endorsement stage may take up to 8 weeks to process. After receiving the endorsement, the UK visa processing may normally take 3 weeks, but delays to UK visa application processing are prevalent. You must always check the latest processing times on the official website. In some countries, you may be able to expedite the decision by paying an additional fee to receive a faster decision. This can expedite the decision-making to 5 working days or 24 hours in some instances.

What documents do I need to apply?

To apply for an endorsement, you will need to check the requirements for the document at the designated endorsement body website. In addition to your CV, the endorsing bodies require letters of recommendation and evidence of your professional achievements. For a UK visa application, you will need an endorsement letter, your current passport, a TB test certificate (if applicable), and evidence of your relationship for your family members if they are also applying.

What kind of fees do I need to pay for the Visa?

The endorsement application is GBP 456 for assessment and is paid to the UK Visas andImmigration at the submission stage. The initial UK visa application fee for the main applicant is GBP 167 and for the dependent family members GBP 623.Each applicant must also pay in advance for Immigration Health Surcharge foreach year of the visa with GBP 624 per year for adults and GBP 470 per year for children. Please remember that UKVI fees are reviewed annually and you can check the latest fees on the government website.

Could my application be rejected and what happens then?

If your application for endorsement is rejected, you have a right for a review by another person at the endorsement body. The review is free, and you will need to complete a form explaining the reasons why you believe the initial reviewer was incorrect. You can not submit any additional documents at this stage, so if you missed some evidence, it may be worth applying again. There is no limit to how many times you can apply for an endorsement and a rejected endorsement does not affect your UK current visa status (if any). If your UK visa application is rejected, you may be able to apply for an administrative review if you believe the UKVI made an error. You can also apply again as long as your endorsement letter is still within 3 months' validity.

Where and when can I apply?

You will need to apply for a UK visa within 3 months of obtaining an endorsement from an approved body. You can apply a maximum of 3 months in advance of your anticipated travel date to the UK and will have to enter the UK within the validity of your entry visa which is normally granted for 90 days. You can apply from any country where you are residing, so if you are applying not from the country of your nationality, you will normally need to show you have a right of residence there.
